Vietnamese Americans are using videoblogging to tell stories about their summer volunteer work helping to care for young people with disabilities in Vietnam. Here's an example of one volunteer's experience in an orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City. The Renaissance Journalism Center in partnership with the New Media Lab & Incubator has an immediate need for up to five media producers. The producers will work with New Media Lab & Incubator staff and researchers on an experimental, national project that supports the development and design of new uses of mobile and online technologies for nonprofit organizations. The New Media Lab & Incubator convenes researchers and practitioners of new media and digital technology to re-imagine content production, revenue generation, and sustainable management.

Chinese Citizen Journalists Find Ally in Twitter

National Public Radio reports that citizen journalists in China are learning to use Twitter and other new media tools to break sensitive news that the government-controlled media tries to ignore.

Media Greenhouse Grants

The Media Greenhouse supports ethnic media, community media, and nonprofit groups in an effort to incubate and test innovative models for gathering and distributing news. This support includes grants, technical assistance and training for news organizations. The goal is to foster growth and improvement in journalism. All projects awarded the grant will share what is learned with the greater journalism and philantrhopic communities.

Training

The Renaissance Journalism Center offers an annual series of classes, workshops and conferences providing training in journalism, multimedia skills, online practices, newsroom management, business development and other topics.
